| Taftville responded to Lisbon Kitchen Fire December 2, 2012 - This morning at 10:03 hrs, Two (2) engine from Taftville were requested to a residential kitchen fire on Preston Allen Rd in the town of Lisbon. Car-2,20,ET-21, & ET-22 responded. Lisbon crews made an aggressive attack and quickly extinguished a rapidly spreading fire which would of consumed the home if it would not have been caught in time. Taftville crews were quickly released as Lisbon FD had a handle on this incident. |

| Norwich Ave Basement Fire November 17, 2012 - This morning at 1:40am, Taftville was dispatched to a outside smoke investigation on Norwich Ave. Captain Milhomme (Car-29) arrived to find an active appliance fire in the basement of a 2 family dwelling. A "working fire" was transmitted. The occupants were evacuated and the fire was quickly extinguished. The building was ventilated of carbon monoxide and other toxic gases. Luckily the fire was minor and the occupants were allowed back into their home. No injuries were reported, the cause is being investigated by the Norwich Fire Marshal. ET-21, Tower-25, ET-22, Yantic RIT, NPD, AASI, NPU, & Norwich fire marshals office responded. |
| Auto up a pole on RT-97 Oct 20, 2012 - This morning Taftville fire was dispatched to back-to-back auto accidents. At 09:18am the 1st accident was reported on Rt-97, Car-20 arrived an reported a auto up a telephone pole. two minor injuries were transported from that incident. Car-2, ET-21, ET-22 & Rescue-2 responded, while operating at that incident a 2nd accident was reported on South B St, Car-20, ET-22, & Rescue-2 responded to find a 2 car T-bone. 1 BLS transport and 1 refusal. |
| Vacuum Explosion at Xtra-Mart September 25, 2012 - around 19:00hrs, Taftville was dispatched to the xtra-mart for a reported auto fire, and while enroute, dispatch advised numerous 911 calls and the last call reported a vacuum explosion. Car-20 arrived and found that there had been a explosion and flash fire from the commercial vacuum cleaner. The fire was extinguished and the fire was investigated by the Norwich FMO. |
| Taftville firefighters involved in unique rescue September 13, 2012 - At 20:18hrs, A Norwich police officer on patrol spotted something very interesting. He found two (2) Deer entrapped in a metal fence on the grounds of the Ponemah mills complex. FD assistance was requested since there was no animal control off(ACO) on duty, Car-2, Car-20, & Rescue-2 responded and used the "Jaws of Life" to extricate both Does from the fence. Both does suffered from exhaustion as it is unknown how long they had been trapped. One of the does suffered a minor leg abrasion from trying to free herself. This is the 2nd animal rescue for Taftville fire in as many weeks. Another example of "you just never know what you'll get called to next!" |

| Taftville assists with Horse Rescue Aug 29, 2012 - Just after 7pm tonight, The Taftville Fire Company #2 was requested for a unique rescue. Car-2,20,229,ET-21,Rescue-2 & Squad 2 responded to a local farm to assist a blind horse who had fallen in a brook and could not get out. With the use of a back hoe the horse was safely removed and returned to its stable. As Taftville is not as rural as it used to be, we still have some rural characteristics! |
| Taftville engine assists at double fatal Griswold house fire August 28, 2012 - This morning at 04:21hrs Car-2, 20, & ET-22 responded to a residential building fire on Tatro Rd in the town of Griswold. The single family home was well involved when first responders arrived. Taftville crews were initially assigned RIT then were put to work with handlines. Fire departments on scene were Griswold, Jewett City, Voluntown,Lisbon, & taftville, then a tanker task force was called since this is in a very rural area of Griswold with absolutely no water. |
| Tower-25 brings lucky kid to 1st day of school Aug 27, 2012 - On Wednesday August 27 was the 1st day of school for Norwich public schools and on that day this special student won a contest to get a ride to school on Tower-25. This is the 2nd year for this event. (Side note - the department was on an emergency at the time this student needed to be brought to school hence the siren ringing at the begining of the video) Even with an emergency call in progress, this lucky student still made to school on time! | Taftville participates in 1st Task Force #14 Drill August 12, 2012 - On august 12th New London County Tanker task Force 14 was activated for a drill. Car 2 and ET-22 responded along with Units from Lisbon tank 154, Jewett City Et-156 (fill site) Griswold Et355, Baltic Tank 124, Voluntown Et-353, Franklin Tank 125, Preston City P-22,and Taftville Et-22 (dump site) 3 portable tanks were set up on a new subdivision in Lisbon; starting with a 500 Gpm flow for 30 min and then increasing to 1000 gpm for the next 1.5 hours. | Rescue Crews respond to swimmers in distress in Shetucket River May 31, 2012 - At 5 pm Taftville fire was alerted to (2) swimmers in distress at the end of Bolduc Lane at the train bridge. Car-2, 20, Rescue-2, Squad-2, Boat-2, Dive 23, American Medic 21 and Norwich PD responded to find 2 swimmers who were in distress were on the shore at the bottom of a steep embankment. The two swimmers were brought to safety and evaluated by Taftville medical personnel. No Injuries were reported. we take this time to remind everyone that as the summer heats up and you look for ways to cool off, use caution when you go swimming in any body of water. Only swim with a buddy and in approved swimming areas. |
| Auto Fire On Merchants Ave May 31,2012 - Taftville was alerted to a auto fire behind the 40 block of Merchants Ave. Crews arrived to find a mini-van fully engulfed in fire. the fire was quickly extinguished. No injuries were reported and the Norwich Fire Marshals Office is investigating. |
| Another Brush Fire behind Dairy Queen April 14, 2012 - Taftville crews were alerted again to the field behind dairy queen for a brush fire. This area has been plagued by brush fires over the years due to all the homeless living in this area. Upon arrival of fire crews an acres of land was burning and it was determined to start backfires in a prevention methoed to control the fire and prevent any future fires. Crews operated for 2.5 hrs. Cause is undetermined. Update 5/15/12 - The field has a nice greened up very nicely since the fire. |
