| 1st TFD Cadillac Chemical truck comes home August 10, 2019 - Several members of the company traveled to the Connecticut Fire Museum in Manchester to return the Ponemah Mill’s 1915 Cadillac Fire Truck back to Taftville. The truck originally belonged to the Ponemah Mill Fire Company and was donated to Us back in the 1950’s. In the early 1970”s the vehicle was sold to a private collector. Members of the company brought it back to Taftville on several occasions such as the department’s 75th and 100th anniversary and for the villages 150th celebration. Members plan on restoring the truck to running condition. A special thanks goes out to Kleeman’s Auto from Norwich for donating the flatbed to transport her home. |
| 1st LUCAS Device in City is Placed In Service August 7, 2019 - The 1st Mechanical CPR Device in the City of Norwich was placed in service. This unit performs uninterrupted, effective CPR on a cardiac arrest victim. Update - within the 1st week in servoce, this device was used on two cardiac arrest victims and both patients arrived at the hospital with pulses. Norwich Bulletin Article LINK |
| Century Old Tree falls on Apartment building August 7, 2019 - At 10:20hr after clearing from a medical aid call we were dispatched to a tree on a house on Taftville-Occum Rd. ET-21 and Rescue 2 under the command of Asst Chief Hadam responded and found a large tree on an apartment building with structural damage. Check of the building proved no injuries to residents but due to the damage, the city building official placed the building uninhabitable and the American Red Cross was requested to assist 6 families and pets with displacment. |
| Engine & Tower to Yantic Basement Fire July 30, 2019 - At 06:30hrs this morning, Tower-25 & ET-22 responded automatic aid to the Yantic Section of the city for a possible basement fire in a single family dwelling on DuPont Ln. Crews arrived to find a smoke condition in the building, no visible fire. Upon investigation it was determined the cause to be a dryer belt. The building was ventilated. No injuries were reported. |
| Motorcyle accident on Blissville Rd July 12, 2019 - At 15:30hrs Taftville Fire was dispatched to a motorcyclist down on Jewett City Rd. 2 Engines and the Rescue responded and found a motorcyclist down with non-life threatening injuries on Blissville road which runs parrall to Jewett City Rd. Medical Aid was provided by Taftville EMT’s until the arrival of an American Medic. Patient was packaged and taken to Backus Hospital. Blissville Rd was closed for about 1 hour while Norwich PD investigates. |
| Smoke Investigation from Illegal Burn July 9, 2019 - Yesterday's smoke investigation/illegal burn call is a frequent call we respond to especially on the weekends and we find residents are unaware of the burning ordinance/guidelines for the City of Norwich. This ordinance was developed as like most ordinances or laws because in the past these fires created a public nuisance, seriously injured or killed residents and city leaders felt this needed to be implimented. NOTE : We do not make these ordinances, but once a complaint has been lodged we have to enforce them. | Tower-25 Extracts Victim from 3rd floor of Apartment Building July 8, 2019 - We were dispatched for Medical aid on Norwich Ave. Upon arrival Tower-25 was requested to extract a victim who could not be removed normally due to a medical condition. Tower=25 set up in front of the building, and extracted the medical patient from a 3rd floor window right into the back of an awaiting ambulance. As this may seem like a rare event, we actually have performed this type of rescue many times in the past. Sometimes it is the safest and easiest was of extraction. The patinet was trasnported for further medical treament |
| Hunters Ave Apartment Fire May 18, 2019 - Last night at 18:17hrs while Squad-2 was operating a call for medical aid, a 2nd call for a building fire on Hunters Ave was dispatched. ET-21 and Tower-25 arrived to find a moderate smoke condition pouring out of a 3 story late 1800's, 6 family apartment building, M/A from Occum & Yantic was requested. Crews went to work and found a active kitchen fire on the 1st floor. Tower 25's crew while conducting searches for victims in the fire apartment removed 3 dogs and 1 cat. All occupants were accounted for and out of the building. Taftville firefighters and American paramedics worked for 45 minutes to render aid to the family pets using the Wag'N O2 Fur Life pet masks. Unfortunately those pets succumb to their injuries. The fire was contained to the fire apartment. The Norwich FMO are investigating, the Red Cross is assisting the families |
| City of Norwich Dwelling Fire March 31, 2019 - Last night at 21:48hrs, Car-2, Tower-25 and ET-21 responded to McKinley Ave on a 2nd Alarm assignment for a building fire. Crews had heavy fire volume on the 2nd and 3rd floors of a 3 story multi-family dwelling. Within short time, crews had withdrawn from the building and tower ladder operations had commenced to knock down the fire to make conditions tentable for interior operations. | City of Norwich Dwelling Fire Feb 3, 2019 - This morning at 09:14hrs Car-20, ET-22 & Tower-25 respond on the 2nd Alarm assignment to the Greenville section of the city for a building fire. ET-22 assisted with fire suppression on the 2nd/3rd floors and Tower-25 assisted with ventilation and overhaul. The incident was upgraded to a 3rd Alarm. No injuries reported. Cause is under investigation. |
| Norwich Ave Dumpster Fire January 8, 2019 - At 15:50hra Taftville was alerted to a smoke investigation on Norwich Ave. Crews arrived to find an active dumpster fire at Quality Insulation. Crews pulled a attack line and worked to gain access. The winch off Rescue-2 was used to pull the dumpster from the compactor to gain access to the bin and extinguish the fire. The cause is under investigation by the Norwich Fire Marshals Office. |

| Taftville responds to Jewett City House Fire Dec 13, 2020 - at 06:23hrs Taftville Tower-25, ET22, & Sq-2 responded to a dwelling fire on North Main St in Jewett City. Crews assisted with searching for a missing occupant and fire suppression efforts. Crews worked for 2 1/2 hours to extinguished the fire. Thank you to Occum for covering our district. |

| Taftville responds to Griswold House Fire Dec 2, 2020 - Yesterday was a busy day for the members of the fire company. At 15:30hrs our FAST team was requested to the town of Griswold for a house fire. Upon arrival our duties changed to laying a 1000 ft 5” supply line from Rt165 to the scene and then engage in fire suppression and ventilation duties. Sq-2 was requested with additional manpower. Total of 11 firefighters responded while another 5 staffed the Taftville station. |

| Taftville Responded to Yantic 3rd Alarm November 17, 2019 at 12:17hrs Taftville was summoned for aid for a residential building fire in the Yantic section of Norwich. Car-2, Tower-25, ET-21, & Squad-2 responded with 15 firefighters. Tower-25 arrived with 6 firefighters and was assigned 1st due truck company duties which was ventilation and search for victims. The crews were split and attended their duties. In the photos you will see a hole in the roof made by firefighters to assist the escape of high heat and super heated gases from the building making it tenable for interior crews. As many panic when they see fire from the roof, that is how we have been trained in ventilation, it is designed to ventilate for victim survival, assist with fire suppression and this is a normal process. ET-21 and Squad-2 assisted with fire suppression and overhaul on floors 2 & 3. Crews were on scene for 4 hours. Thank You to the Occum, Baltic, City of Norwich Eng-2 FD's for covering our district and responding to a Medical aid call for a unresponsive person in the our district. |
