| House Fire on Lower Canterbury Turnpike Jan 11, 2012 - just after 5am, Taftville fire was dispatched to lower canterbury turnpike for a reported fully involved house fire. Car-2 (Chief) & Car-20 (Dep Chief) arrived at the same time to find a 2 sory wood dwelling fully involved. Crews worked to protect smoking exposures til a water supply was established and then large caliber hose lines were applied to the home. As there was a fire hydrant about 400 feet away from this home, crews knew that the style of hydrant would not be sufficent for this style of fire and laid the extra hose to a larger water main to enough water to extinguish the fire. A relay pumping operation was performed by Yantic to pump the needed water to the scene.The home was destroyed. Norwich and state FMO are investigating |
