Fire Destroys old Jewett City Town Hall
January 3,2006 - Jewett City and Griswold FD responded to a structure fire at the old Jewett City Town
Hall. Fire Crews from Jewett City, Griswold,Lisbon, and Taftville started an interior attack but due to
deteriorating condition, crews were pulled from the building and a defensive operation was started.
Ladder pipe from Taftville and Plainfield were set up on the "A" side while Jewett City set up their ladder
in the "C:" side. Numerous deck guns were deployed also. It took crews four hours to contain the
blaze. One Taftville firefighter was injuried when they slipped off Tower 25 and landed on an outrigger.
the firefighter was taken to WWBH where they were treated and released. The firefighter is home and
resting comfortably. Good luck on his recovery!
