Mumford Cove Mock Plane Crash June 28, 2020

This weekend members of the dive team (Taftville/Yantic Fire) took part in a “mock” plane
crash in Mumford Cove Near Groton Long Point. Team members joined numerous agencies
along the shoreline both in planning and executing the drill.   If you passed by the station
recently, you might have seen an aircraft fuselage in the back of the station. Members
converted the former airframe into a training prop and sunk it the night before the drill.
The drill started this morning with briefing of all agencies and then went into full swing to
search and rescue 8 victims on the surface. Participants also had to conduct large area
searches to locate the sunken plane and divers had to extricate the two victims and refloat
the plane.
Participating agencies: Groton Long Point Fire, Groton Long Point Police, Groton Town
Police, Noank Fire, Mystic Fire, Old Mystic Fire, Gales Ferry Fire, North Stonington Fire,
United States Coast Guard, Groton New London Airport, New London County Canteen One,
Groton Ambulance, Mystic River Ambulance.  We hope we didn’t miss anyone and if we did
we apologize.
