Occum Car Fire
Sept 19, 2009 - Just before 2pm, Occum FD was alerted to an auto fire on the
southbound off ramp of I-395. Crews arrived and found a active fire on the
engine of a Saab  A Taftville engine was added when a gasoline line was leaking
fueling the car fire that would not go out.  Car-20 and ET-21 joined Occum crews
on scene and assisted with water supply and Haz-Mat mitigation from the car's
full gas tank.  CSP and DEP also responded.
Truck Fire on South B St

Oct 12,2009 - at around 17:20hrs, Taftville was dispatched to a truck fire on
South B St.  Crews arrived to find the bed of a pick-up truck on fire in front of a
residence.  Firefighters quickly extinguished the fire and Norwich FMO and
Norwich PD are investigating.
Engine & Tower on small fire at Stop & Shop Supermarket

Oct 16, 2009 - Around 23:00hrs the Yantic Fire Engine Co with an additional
engine and truck from Taftville responded to the Stop & Shop supermarket for
smoke in the building.  Crews on scene found smoke in the building and after
extensive searching found that a small fire had occurred in a display case in the
rear of the store.  No injuries were reported and the health dept inspected the
store to ensure there were no health hazards.
Auto accidents continue as rain and wet leaves plague area

October 31,2009 - As the weather changes, rain and leaves are covering the
ground leading to more crashes as drivers continue to drive fast on wet roads.  
Taftville crews have responded to numerous accident in the month of October,
luckily none resulted in any fatalities.  Click on the photo for some of the more note

Taftville responds to Yantic house fire

November 12, 2009 - Around 17:00hrs the Yantic FD was dispatched to Lafayette
ST for a house fire.  Crews arrived and found a 2.5 stry home 30% involved in fire.  
Passersby were able to pull the home occupant from the fire and first responding
firefighters performed CPR on the occupant who was transported to Backus
hospital.  18 Taftville firefighters joined Yantic firefighters on the scene along the
Mohegan Tribal FAST and additional engine crews from Bozrah and Laurel Hill.  
Two dogs also succumb from the fire.  The Norwich FMO, Norwich PD and State
FMO's are jointly investigating.

Smokey Box Truck Fire

Dec 6, 2009 - Around 17:00hrs, The Taftville FD was dispatched to an auto fire on
Merchants Ave.  Responding crews could see a column of thick smoke in the sky
and arrived to find a box truck on fire against a building.  A structure fire
assignment was requested by Chief Jencks.  16 Taftville firefighters were able to
contain the fire to the engine compartmjent and stop it from spreading..  No injuries
were reported, the fire marshal is investigating.
First Snow brings more crashes

Dec 6, 2009 - At 01:30hrs, Taftville was alerted to an auto accident on
Taftville-Occum rd.  Crews arrived to find a single car vs a rock enbankment.  One
occupant had non-life threatening injuried and was treated by TFD EMT's and
transported to Backus by American ambulance.  NPD is investigating.
Small Bedroom Fire on "B" St

Dec 7, 2009 - Taftville was alerted to a smoke in the building call on "B" St, Upon
arrival smoke was found on the 2nd floor.  Firefighters found a small fire in a
bedroom and quickly extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported and the
Norwich FMO is investigating
Car hits Pole, Ties up Norwich Ave Traffic

Dec 9, 2009 - Taftville was alerted to a auto accident with entrapment on Norwich
Ave.  Upon arrival firefighters found a single vehicle vs pole with no entrapment.  
Firefighters provided medical care for the occupant with assistance from AASI,  
Norwich PD is investigating.
Taftville firefighters extricate victim from auto vs tree

Dec 12, 2009 - Taftville was alerted to a vehicle accident on Maennorchor Ave.  
Car-28 and ET-21 arrived to find an car vs a tree.  Crews used the "Jaws of Life" to
extricate one victim from the car and provided medical care.  American Ambulance
transported the injuried to a local hospital.  The cause in under investigation by
Norwich PD.
Late Night House Fire on South "A" St

Dec 22, 2009 - Just before midnight, Taftvlle was alerted to a house fire on South A
St.  First units arrived 2 minutes from the 911 call and found fire emitting from the A/D
corner porch.  A hoseline was quickly deployed and the fire was contained to the
porch.  All occupants were evacuated safely.  The occupants were allowed to stay in
the house since the fire damage did not affect the living area.  The cause is under
investigation.

Special Call for Rescue-2 to I-395 Rollover

January 1, 2010 - Around 08:00hrs the Occum fire department with a special call
for Taftville Rescue-2 to I-395 SB at Ex 83 for a DOT truck rollover.  Units arrived to
find a DOT supervisor pick-up on its side. Thankfully there were no injuries.  Crews
control hazards and awaited a wrecker. CSP are investigating
Barn Fire on Old Tarryk Farm

Jan 19, 2010 - At 01:09hrs the Occum and Taftville fire departments were alerted
to a fire at the old Tarryk farm on Canterbury Turnpike.  Deputy Chief Dupuis
arrived to find a 50x30 barn 60% involved in fire. Occum crews attacked the fire
while Taftville established a water supply and supported occum in containing the
fire to the original building.  Quick work to extinguish the fire prevented nearby
exposures from igniting.  The Norwich PD and FMO are investigating.
Taftville Firefighters Collect Money For Haiti

Jan 17, 2010 - Taftville firefighters along with all Norwich Volunteer companies
conducted a Boot-Drive to collect money for the
Haitian Health Foundation
Haiti was hit with a huge earthquake that has killed thousand.
Greenville 2nd Alarm Fire on Prospect St

Jan 23, 2010 - just before 19:00hrs, Taftvlle was dispatched on a 2nd alarm
building fire in the Greenville section of the city.  Tower-25 and ET-21 crews
worked with city firefighters in an aggressive attempt to control the fire on the 2nd
and 3rd floor but the fire was in the walls, floor and ceilings.  Crews reported
spongey floor which prompted an evacuation and exterior attack.  Water supply
was hampered after a motorist drove over a supply line, which added additonal
engines to support water supply and pumping.
Full Assignment on Jewett City 2nd Alarm

Jan 25, 2010 - around 23:23hrs Taftville firefighters were alerted to join Jewett
City, Griswold, Lisbon, and Voluntown fireifghters at the scene of a building fire on
North Main St.  Crews made an aggressive interior attack from the basement to the
3rd floor.  Once crews made the 3rd floor condition got worse and evacuation
order was given by the incident commander. Once all firefighter were accounted
for exterior operations went under way.  Two firefighters were injuried and taken to
a local hospital.  The cause is still under investigation
2nd Fire on Tarryk Farm Property in 15 Days

Feb 3, 2010
- At 04:50hrs, The Occum and Taftville fire departments were alerted
again to Tarryks farm for a building fire.  Norwich Police investigating another
incident
discovered the building fire.  Deputy Chief Dupuis arrived to find a 2 stry
farm house with a active fire in  the basement.  Occum and Taftville crews quickly
found the fire and extinguished it.  The Norwich FMO, PD and State Fire Marshals
office are investigating.
Dive team responds to their first call

Feb 4, 2010 - Around 11:30hrs - The Baltic FD with special call from the Norwich
Underwater Search and Rescue team responded to the Shetucket River by the
Sprague/Norwich town-line for a snow tube in the water with possibly someone
hanging on to it.  All agencies arrived to find a snow tube on the icy shetucket
surrounded by river debris.  Quick assessment by the team determined this was
a surface ice operation.  One member of the team was sent on the ice to recover
the tube and check for victims, the tube was recovered and no victims were found
